The World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) takes decisions at an international level concerning radio communications. The World Conference generally meets every two to four years.
At the World Radiocommunication Conference decisions are taken regarding studies to be carried out, radio operating procedures are defined, qualification requirements for radio personnel are determined and frequency bandwidths are assigned to the various radio services (known as “primary radio services”), such as maritime, aeronautical, broadcasting and amateur radio services, for example.
The World Radiocommunication Conference is organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations agency. The participants are the ITU member states, which are usually represented by a delegation from the national authority responsible for administering frequencies.
